Currituck to seize land by eminent domain

Currituck County plans to use its power to seize private property for public use after attempts to buy a land easement in Corolla failed.
Using eminent domain, the county will force landowner Robert DeGabrielle to sell an easement the county needs to complete a flood water drainage project in the Whalehead beach community.
Currituck eyes own facility for sewer

CURRITUCK — Even though the up-front costs are higher, Currituck officials have decided that building a new wastewater treatment system in Moyock will be better in the long run than buying an existing plant that needs expanding.
The Board of Commissioners Monday decided against buying the privately owned Eagle Creek wasterwater plant, agreeing instead to build a new plant.

CURRITUCK — A former school administrator who filed a lawsuit claiming the Edenton-Chowan Schools unfairly demoted her, will be given more time to find an attorney, a Superior Court judge ruled Monday.
Judge Jerry R. Tillett’s ruling effectively delays consideration of the school district’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit filed by Mary L. Felton.

Three schools in the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank school district are among roughly 5 percent of North Carolina schools that have never met Adequate Yearly Progress, according the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
When AYP was first measured in the 2002-2003 school year, approximately 2,250 state schools were affected.
